Setting defaults

I've been a registered FastRawViewer for a couple of years, and I like the software, but I don't like the way it seems to have taken over all aspects of my photo file handling. Sometimes I want to use windows file manager or Canon Digital Professional to quickly sort through my photos. If I happen to double click a photo for a closer look in another program, it opens the file in FastRawViewer, which I don't want. I'm assuming some defaults need to be undone and reset, but I can't find out how to do it. I tried fiddling around with the defaults in the Windows Settings, but that didn't help. I'm hoping there's an easy fix for this, because I like this software, but if I can't make it less intrusive, I'm going to have to uninstall it.

I should know how to do this, but unfortunately, I don't. Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

Dear Sir:

FastRawViewer does not set any 'default' handlers for file extensions. On install it is added to file extension (type) 'Open with' menu and will be set as  a default program only if

  • FRV is the only open-with program for given extension
  • or user checks 'always use this program' in program selection popup (in Windows 10; older versions may have different behavior like remembering last user choice).

Depending on WIndows version you use, Program - File Extensions associations are tunable via different methods:

  •  Windows 10:

PC Settings - Apps - Default apps - choose by file type -

Or Explorer -  right click on file - Open with - choose another app

  • Windows 7-8:

Control Panel - Default programs - Associate default type

Or right click method in Explorer

Using this methods you can reassign (or un-assign) default program for file types (extensions) you use.

Also, you may call Control-Panel style  windows control via FastRawViewer - Preferences - Other - Manage file associations and de-assign needed extensions from FastRawViewer
