Passing files to external programs

Hi,

This is no doubt a very basic question, so apologies for that.  I am new to the latest version of FRV, having only just upgraded from v.1 and I note that when I pass files to external programs, (in this case Photoshop Elements, though I have other software as well), the files now open directly in Photoshop Elements, presumably as .JPG, rather than opening as RAW files and thus giving me the RAW adjustment dialogue options in Photoshop.

I've had a look at the manual and all the menu items for FRV and can't seem to figure out what I need to do to go back to my accustomed way of working.  I assume it is just a setting somewhere that needs changing?

I'd be most grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction, please?
Thanks in advance!

When 'passing to external programs', FastRawViewer simply runs [your external program] [list of files selected], it does not convers to JPEG or similar (also, for RAW+JPEG pairs only raw filenames are passed).

You may try to use drag-n-drop (into Photoshop window) instead of 'run external program'

Thanks for the suggestion - but dragging and dropping a file into Photoshop still doesn't let it 'Open in Camera RAW'.
The way I worked with the earlier version of FRV was by viewing the files in FRV, then simply right-clicking the file I wanted and selecting 'Run Program' to pass the file to Photoshop.  Doing that automatically opened Photoshop's .RAW editing dialogue, but now, with the new version of FRV, it doesn't - it just opens the file for normal editing, with no RAW editing options.

That's because once a file is already open in Photoshop, you no longer have the option to access the RAW editing controls. A file has to be opened from the outset using the 'Open in Camera RAW' file menu item, and that was what the earlier version of FRV used to do - but not any more, it seems.

FRV v2 is not different with FRV v1  in this aspect: 'run external program' code is exactly the same.

BTW, what PS Elements version you're talking about? Also: Mac or Windows?

All I know is that, until a day or two ago, right up until I updated to v2 of FRV, passing the files across to Photoshop Elements worked as it always had (as described above, invoking the RAW file handling) and since updating FRV, it it doesn't work that way any more. Photoshop Elements is the same (old) version I've used for the last seven years now (Photoshop Elements 14 for PC).   I have later versions on other PCs, but have not updated it on this machine, as it is stable and it still does exactly what I need. I won't update it now because after Photoshop 2020, it becomes necessary to replace it every year, and as a retired guy, I can't afford that.
