I run Nikon cameras. They generate subfolders that each contains a max of something like 9999 photos each, then a new subfolder is created.
I can easily get back from a day shoot with 4+ of those 9999 photos subfolders.
When I cull, I will do it with the subfolder browsing mode in FRV. The problem is that once I have tagged all my selects among those many subfolders, I will likely have 4 or more photos with the same exact name. If I was to simply copy the selected files to another location, but all in the same folder, either FRV would overwrite the files one on top of the other, or it would be intelligent enough to abort the process, but leaving me with a copy task half done.
The idea is to have a way to tell FRV to export a large number of photos, even if they have the same name originally from the camera, and rename them, as it copies them over, such that I have [date]_[time]_DSCXXX.NEF. That way, even if I have 4 DSC3487.NEF shots, they all would line up in order and not conflict with each other of that long day shoot.
Whether or not I would first move all my RAWs from the camera card to a "safer" location, I would still need to do this renaming. All we are asking is for FRV to perform both tasks in a single operation, by having an "export selected photos" option that can rename files as they are copied.
It's simple. It's not unsafe and Photomecanics does it. I appreciate the makers of FVR want to protect their users from mishaps, but please, don't patronize them.
I'm considering purchasing FRV, but this is really a big issue with regard to the way I need the tool to work. It's my workflow and I need it.
Please reconsider your stance on this.
Best regards.
