My use case for selecting picks during culling is that I generally perform the culls (via making Picks) immediately after a session. However, a few weeks later I might question why a photo became a pick, and in my photo editor (currently Capture One), I will unfilter "Show Picks Only" to see the entire shoot. Sometimes, I'll find a neighboring photo to be more desirable after time has passed, and change my selected Pick.
I've picked up a new body, and the perpetual Capture One license doesn't support the new camera -- but Lightroom CC does. I'm investigating a workflow shift back to Lightroom as an option, and saw that my current workflow breaks at the Pick selection stage.
Those are valid points.
