Dear Sir:


  • "R" ==> shows the RAW image
  • "i" ==> shows the JPG that is embedded in the NEF file
  • "E" ==> shows the JPG that is in the same directory

The above is correct. Different applications may use sharpening or some other ways of "improving" JPEGs (especially when not viewing at 100%), we don't use any by default. You can enable on-screen sharpening for JPEGs, Preferences - Sharpening/Other - have "Sharpen RAW files only" unchecked; and press "S" while vieweing the image.
