FastRawViewer and Sony A9 1:1 images (1.4.12 and 1.5 RC)

Forums:

Hello,
I just upgraded my Sony A9 to firmware 5.0 and finally started using the 1:1 aspect ratio.

The filmstrip properly show the squared images while the single image view still show the 3:2 aspect ratio.

You should note that the file size is about 24Mb even for the squared images so in the RAW there is the image taken from the full sensor, even if its shot at 1:1.

I think the exif data has the information about the used ratio as, for example, Adobe Camera RAW properly opens the 1:1 files as squared images.

I'm wondering if you can add the ability to show the images with the proper aspect ratio even when showed in the single image view.

If you need any further info or a RAW file please let me know.

Thank you for this great product!

Dear Sir:

FastRawViewer displays:

  - full RAW image in single view mode

  - embedded previews in Grid mode and/or in Filmstrip panel.

So, if your images are really not cropped (full 2:3 RAW is recorded), the uncropped image will be displayed in single view mode.

We'll consider 'apply in-camera cropping' option for future releases (although it is very camera specific, so full support for most /modern/ cameras will require considerable development time). Of course, we need sample files (the easiest way to send us files is to use WeTransfer service/free option and send files to support@fastrawviewer.com).

Now it can be considered as a feature: FRV  shows a full RAW regardless of the artificial limitations set by the camera :)

hello,
just sent you a sample RAW trough wetransfer.
"Now it can be considered as a feature"
Well, a feature should help me in my job, actually seeing an image in 3:2 while it was created thinking in 1:1 makes my work more difficult - I do really hope you will implement it soon and please start with Sony cameras :-)
thank you
