can't open jpgs

Hi. I'm unable to open newly created JPEG files unless I rename them. Using 2.0.5, and creating files using DXO Photolab 6 and Photoshop Elements 2022. Renaming the file solves the issue and it only applies to jpgs.

Could you please explain the problem:

  • Do you need to change file extension (from which one)
  • Or just change file name?

In second case, please use (check) setting Preferences - Performance - Flush decoded RAW/JPEG caches on file/folder forced reload and use Menu - File - Reload - Reload current folder to refresh/reload folder.

Most probably problem source:  your application(s) start to write to JPEG file. FastRawViewer sees the file immediately, tries to get it contents and fails because file is not completely stored (or locked). This failed state is remembered in file cache.

Thank you. It's the second case, and the suggested fix didn't work.

OK, let's try to investigate via FastRawViewer' Debug log:

Preferences - Other:

   Debug log messages: All

Save debug log to File:  Yes, remove on quit

Close FastRawViewer and start it again to get full session from beginning in the log.

Reproduce the problem, then

Mac: Menu - Help - Reveal debug log in Finder

Windows: Menu - Help - Show debug log in Explorer

Attach the log file highlighted to E-mail to support@fastrawviewer.com with additional notes/screenshots that will help us know what file caused the problem (..... I've saved file named .... from external application, it appear/not appear in file list, when I click to it ... this happens).

Thank you in advance

Followup: probably, log files will not show exact problem source, in that case we'll create debug build with more extensive logging to see what happens in more details
